About Me

I am currently a high school Spanish teacher in Elizabeth, CO which somewhere between Denver and Colorado Springs. I have always been a techie person, and it has gotten much worse as my husband has continued to move up the corporate ladder as a "super tech guy". I can never remember what his exact title is, which frustrates him to no end, but he makes the money so I can continue to follow my dream of being a teacher.

We have four fantastic kids. Our oldest, Will, 18,  has just graduated from high school and can't wait to head off to the University of Wyoming. Our oldest daughter is 13 and will be attending my high school next year as a Freshman. Our twins, Reagan and Rylie, continue to be a joy and a blessing and will be going to 4 year old preschool in the fall. Our life was destined never to be boring!

I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in International Business. In 2001, I returned to school with the University of Phoenix and received my masters in Secondary Education. I have only been an "official" teacher for seven years, but I have taught in technical schools and was a corporate trainer before that, so really, I have always been teaching. I have found a high school that I love in EHS (www.ehscardinals.com) and plan to be here for the long haul. I have a variety of students from different backgrounds, and they all keep me on my toes.

I am a certified Business and Spanish teacher, but now only teach Spanish. I began the flip because even though we are on a block schedule and have 90 minutes, I never had time to do the things I needed to do to help my students succeed. As I look back now, I wasted so much class time in lectures, it was almost criminal! Now, I can work with the students that need me and really challenge my super-smarties!

2011-2012 was my first year flipping and I am hooked, and I am never going back. I see flipping as a way to move towards the real 21st Century Education that those legislators are always talking about. I also think that flipping is the first step to blended classrooms at the high school level, and I can't wait to be a part of that!  I am continuing to update videos, assignments and projects because I am a perfectionist. I am beginning to incorporate Project Based Learning and adding the flip at the other levels as well.

I have recently written a chapter in the book Flipping 2.0. This book outlines the real classroom application of the flipped classroom in a variety of levels and content areas. My chapter is, of course, about implementation in the World Language classroom. I was so pleased to be a part of this great project.

Some great opportunities have come my way as a result of my blog and flipping. I have made numerous presentations around the country, had the opportunity to interact with hundreds of flippers and future flippers from around the world, and even gotten some job opportunities!

The views on my blog are my own, and I always appreciate feedback, comments, emails, etc from the readers of my blog.
